The Best Weekend Trips From Milwaukee

With Labor Day weekend upon us, and Summer coming to a close, I wanted to share some of my favorite weekend trips from Milwaukee. If you are looking to plan a few days away, or are even thinking of taking a last minute trip, here are some great options that a quick drive!

Door County, WI

Door County (pictured above) is a year-round Wisconsin favorite. Just three hours north of Milwaukee, it’s perfect for any season and there is always plenty to do for couple, groups and families. Go hiking and kayaking in the summer. Apple picking in the Fall, and wine tasting all year round! It’s also the perfect spot for a cozy and romantic winter weekend.

Devil’s Lake State Park & Baraboo, WI

If you’re looking for a great camping spot, check out Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo. Stay for one night or the whole weekend to enjoy beautiful hiking trails, the scenic views and the small town vibes of Baraboo.

(Fun fact: Brian and I got our engagement photos taken at Devil’s Lake in the Fall. I mean… <3)

Lake Geneva, WI

I’ve been going to Lake Geneva ever since I was a kid. I love taking our friend’s boat out on the lake (or you can rent one), and exploring the cute shops around town. If you have a sweet tooth, like me, you’ll love Kilwins fudge! It’s also a great spot for a low key girls weekend.

Kohler, WI

If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway, Kohler is just one hour north of Milwaukee. Stay at The American Club and enjoy a day at Waters Spa. There are also beautiful hiking trails and golf courses, in addition to the cutest coffee shop.

Chicago, IL

Being from the Chicago suburbs, I love going back home for a quick trip. Milwaukeeans love to take the Amtrak down (it’s only an hour and a half trip), but I prefer to drive so I’m not tied to a schedule. Just like Milwaukee, Chicago is perfect in the summer months, but also has some fun and festive activities throughout the year. I always love going to Navy Pier, Millennium park and the art museum. And either stopping my favorite Italian small plates restaurant Quartino, or getting some classic Chicago style deep dish at Lou Malnati’s.

Traverse City, MI

Traverse City Weekend

I first visited Traverse City last summer while I was helping from friend with some wedding details; and then again in the fall for her wedding. While it’s a bit of a longer drive it’s 100% worth the trip (in summer of fall)! The views of the bay are breathtaking, and there are number of wineries, golf courses and hiking trails to enjoy.
