Weekend Guide to Milwaukee in the Fall

Milwaukee Weekend Fall Guide

I get a lot of questions on where to go and what to do in Milwaukee from family, friends and out-of-towners. So… I am rounding up 10 activities to do around Milwaukee during each season (starting with fall)! If you’re local, or thinking of popping in for the weekend, these are some awesome activities that you don’t want to miss!

1. Enjoy a Beer at Oktoberfest

If you’re in Brew City during the fall, celebrating Oktoberfest is a must! There are several Oktoberfest celebrations throughout the city and surrounding suburbs for all ages. I particularly like the quaint celebrations at the Bavarian Bierhaus in Glendale. Head over and grab some authentic German cuisine, and try some local or imported brews!

2. Take A Crips Walk Through Lake Park

If you want to enjoy the fall colors, head over to Lake Park and take a brisk walk with leaf covered trails and views of Lake Michigan. (Once you’re done there, head east and walk through the neighborhood to marvel at all the old mansions.)

3. Go Apple Picking at Barthel’s

Barthel’s Fruit Farm is my favorite place to go apple picking in the fall! They have a great selection and a beautiful property. They also have two golden retrievers running around their barn to help you pick out your fresh apple cider and a donut on your way out! It’s the perfect spot for all things fall.

4. Explore the City’s Architecture During Door’s Open

Door’s Open is two-day event to celebrate Milwaukee’s art, culture, architecture and history. Over 160 buildings around the city open their doors so the public can explore and see the city in a whole new light. This event happens at the end of September every year, so book your travel accordingly.

5. Find a Diamond in the Rough at Antiques on Pierce

Looking to add some cozy fall decor to your home? You can’t go wrong with an antique! There are a bunch of great antiques shops in the Milwaukee area, but Antiques on Pierce is huge and has a great selection of items for any home. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon, and spend an hour looking for treasures.

6. Enjoy a Seasonal Meal at Odd Duck

Odd Duck is one of my favorite spots for a cozy dinner. It’s the perfect spot for enjoying small plates with a group of close friends, or for a romantic date night. The intimate atmosphere and ever-changing menu is perfect for a crisp fall evening.

7. Warm Up With a Coffee on the Lake Front

Enjoy the beautiful fall colors and a view of the lake while you sip on a seasonal latte at Colectivo! They have a great atmosphere for reading a book, catching up with a friend or enjoying a beautiful fall day out on their patio. If you’re in need of another jolt, check out my other favorite Milwaukee coffee shops!

8. Shop the Third Ward

Enjoy an afternoon walking through the Third Ward and checking out all of the great boutiques! Stock up on comfy fall sweaters, unique jewelry, or stop by Public Market for local foods to take home and enjoy.

9. Watch a Scary Movie at The Avalon

If you want to get into the spirit of the Halloween season, check out the local theaters around Milwaukee. The Avalon always shows old movies, and during October you can always catch a classic horror flick.

10. Stroll Through the Pumpkin Pavilion

Looking to do something festive? Head over to the Pumpkin Pavilion in Bay View and enjoy pumpkin carving and enjoy over 1,000 jack-o-lanterns on display!
