It’s our house-iversary! I can’t believe it’s been a full year since we got the keys to our first home. In some ways, it feels like we haven’t done much and have only scraped the surface of what updates we want to make to our home. But, looking back at our first house tour, it’s crazy to see what the house looked like just 12 months ago and compare it to where we are now! Want to see our updates? Check out our updated tour below!
Entryway
I think the entryway and the living/dining room have transformed the most since we moved in. I had this exact vision when we first saw the place and I am SO happy with how it turned out! The white walls really brighten up the space, the black door was a bold but perfect choice, and using Brian’s family’s antique sewing machine as an entry table really added to the overall character the home already has. It’s quickly become my favorite room in the house. 🙂
Living/Dining Room
The dining room has also really transformed over the past year! After getting rid of the brown walls, I think the original builtin really pops, and we added a little character by installing some gallery shelves in personalize an empty corner. (We still need to print pictures to go in all of the frames, but hey, it’s a work in progress, haha!)
As for the living room, we actually just moved the TV from here into our basement. We’re testing it out to see if we want two TVs, but right now it’s actually kind of nice not having one on the main level. And, as an added bonus, we have been watching much less TV this week. We might need to do some rearranging if we decide to not replace the TV here, but we shall see!
Master Bedroom
Buh-bye sea-foam green walls and nasty/cheap blinds! The next stop on our updated tour is the master! It’s pretty small, but I think we have maximized the space well. We downsized our wardrobe (probably could do that a bit more), and we found a lot of great storage ideas at the Container Store. It was really hard to find a dresser and nightstands that fit the space, but I have learned that you just need to have patients and eventually you will find something that works!
Nursery
Before you go on thinking we totally have our lives together over here, WE DON’T! The nursery has basically being a dumping ground for things we either never hung, or don’t know where to put or what to do with… That will obviously need to change very soon, since we are expecting our little one in January! We have, however, primed the walls to cover up with icky brown color it was before!
Kitchen
The kitchen was something I was VERY excited to refresh. While it’s still not totally my taste, it’s really amazing what a little paint and hardware can do to update a room! We’d eventually love to get stainless steal appliances and change the countertops, but that’s probably years down the line. For now, it works!
Bathroom
Nothing much as changed here, but we are hoping to paint and update some storage in here this year. We eventually would like to completely gut the bathroom to maximize on storage and the really awkward size with two doors leading into the bathroom, but that’s probably a 2021 or 2022 project.
Guest Room/Office
This room is starting to come together, but it’s still filled with mix-matched furniture from our old apartment. We did add a desk at the beginning of quarantine, so it’s officially an office/guest room, but I have big design ideas for this space that I am hoping to tackle in 2021!
Basement
Ok, other than the entryway/living/dining room, the basement has also really transformed! We still have a lot of work to do, but we painted over the red and yellow walls, updated the carpet and finally found a couch that would fit down the staircase! Our next step is it hang all of our sports memorabilia and get some more storage for baby toys.
Yard
Ahhh the yard. Brian and I quickly found out that yard work is just that… work! We have trimmed trees, removed bushes and unwanted plants, weeded (several times) and have dreamt up a cozy backyard area. We still have lots to do, but we are thinking next summer will be the time for adding a vegetable garden, string lights and a fire pit!
Thanks for following along with our house journey and checking out our updated tour! It’s definitely a labor of love, as they say, but at the end of the day we love owning a home and making it ours. 🙂
