From the moment we met, I knew Brian was meant to be in my life. After our first date, I knew he was the man I was going to marry. And here we are, 7 years later, with our first wedding anniversary just days away! You can read our love story to get all the details on how we met, and how Brian proposed, but here is where I am going to share all of our wedding details!
I always new I wanted a big wedding. A huge room with our family and friends, filled with flowers, a huge cake and good music. I was the type of girl that had been planning her wedding since she was six. And once Brian and I got engaged, the vision for our wedding became even more clear.
We decided to get married in Milwaukee, in between our families in Chicago and Green Bay. Our rehearsal dinner spot was where we had our first date, a local restaurant where we were able to have a buffet and mingle with our wedding party and immediate family.
I was up at 3am the morning of our wedding, too excited to sleep. My bridesmaids and I made our way to get our hair and make up done, while Brian and his groomsmen slept in and got breakfast.
I never wanted a “first look,” but since our ceremony was at 5pm, we needed to take pictures beforehand. I thought of having our first look by Lake Michigan, where Brian proposed, and fell in love with the idea.
After some family pictures by the lake, we walked around the city with our bridal party, taking pictures and waving at boats passing on the Milwaukee River; counting the minutes till our ceremony.
I had always wanted to get married outside, but once I saw the ceremony space at the Pritzlaff, I threw that out the window! The walls were all cream city brick, with the backdrop of our ceremony being old warehouse windows that let the evening light fill the room.
Brian and I wanted our ceremony to be very personal, and very much about us as a couple. My cousin, Michael, officiated, which was really special since we’ve always been close. We had our step dads perform the readings (a bible verse and an Irish blessing), we wrote our own vows (Brian’s idea, shockingly), and did a traditional Celtic Handfasting Ceremony.
Our reception was filled with white roses and greenery. We didn’t want to take away from the historic architecture of the building, so we kept the decor simple. To touch on our love of travel, we had vintage postcards made of our table numbers, and had our guests sign a globe to put in our home.
Entering our reception, we “cut” our cake. (FYI, there is usually cardboard in-between cake layers! I figured it out, but Brian just didn’t get it. So, we ended up feeding each other little chunks of cake, haha oh well!)
We had speeches from the best man, maid of honor, and my brother; with a tribute to Brian’s high school football days. All followed by an evening of dancing and trying to mingle with all of our guests.
By the end of the night, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day, and I wish I could relive it over and over.
