How to Plan the Perfect Staycation

Staycation

We recently booked a staycation for my birthday and it was the perfect little getaway! This was our first staycation, and I honestly don’t know why people don’t plan these more often! There’s basically no travel time, no major confusion with the area, and you get to see your own city in a totally new light. (In short, I’d highly recommend!)

We had such a great time enjoying our city, and I want you to have a fun time experiencing yours! So, here are a few ways to plan your perfect staycation…

Select unique accommodations

Wether you want to stay in a fancy hotel, or rent a local Airbnb, pick something that’s a little out of the ordinary for you. If you typically stay in standard hotels, opt for a bed and breakfast or a boutique inn. You can also search local home rentals on Airbnb or Vrbo to get a completely different vibe but still feel like you’re at home. (Get tips on how to find the perfect vacation rental here.)

Go to a new (to you) restaurant

Just because you’re staying close to home doesn’t mean you need to go to the same spots! Use your staycation as an opportunity to explore your city, and go to a new spot for dinner or brunch. Order something you wouldn’t get anywhere else, and ask your server to surprise you with their favorite appetizer or dessert.

Do something touristy

I know touristy things seem crowded and sometimes cheesy. But how many “touristy” things have you actually done in your hometown? Find a new activity or place to go, and you might end up seeing your city in a whole new light!

Relax!

You know when you’re somewhere new and you feel like you’re wasting your time if you sit in your hotel room? Well, when you’re in a familiar area, you can actually take some time to yourself and indulge! Bring breakfast to your room and stay in bed all morning, or go get a massage at the local spa you’ve been wanting to try. Just take some time for yourself, because you deserve it!
