Spring is finally (almost) here! After a long Wisconsin winter, I am very excited to say that the first official day of Spring is next week. Milwaukee is a great city year-round, but it really starts to come alive in the Spring. And if you’re looking for some ideas on how to enjoy the city, look no further!
1. Find a patio
As soon as the temperature hits 50, Milwaukee opens up their outdoor patios! Gather with friends for a night out or a “Sunday Funday” outside. (Don’t worry, many places have heaters!)
2. Celebrate St. Patty’s Day
There are an endless amount of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations throughout the city. Bar crawls, parades and restaurant specials. If you’re looking for a more authentic Irish celebration, check out County Clare Irish Inn & Pub!
3. Tour a Brewery or Distillery
There’s a reason Milwaukee is nicknamed “Brew City!” Head to one of the many breweries through out the city. The Lakefront Brewery tour is a great local favorite. If you’re not into beer, check out Great Lakes Distillery! It’s a small, but mighty, tour that is generous with their samples and popcorn.
4. Track Down Food Trucks
With warm weather, brings more outdoor dining and food trucks are no exception! There are a number that you can find throughout the Third Ward, but head to Zocalo for a variety of different foods and treats.
5. Enjoy the blooms at the Boerner Botanical Gardens
Did you know Milwaukee has a Botanical Garden?? It’s just outside the city in Hales Corners! Spend a sunny spring afternoon wandering through the blooms and butterfly garden, and get back to nature after a long winter.
6. Hit the lakefront trails
Speaking of getting back to nature, get outside and head to Milwaukee’s lakefront! Walk, run or bike the trials while enjoying the views or Lake Michigan, the tree-lined paths, and watch the boats get launched into the harbors. You can also pick up a kite at Gift of Wings in Veteran’s Park, and enjoy a windy afternoon!
7. Celebrate like a local on April 14th
April 14th is fondly known as Milwaukee Day, or 414 Day! Scope out local spots for fun activities or discounts.
8. Tailgate at a Brewers Game
Even though it might still be a little chilly in Milwaukee, there is nothing more Wisconsin than tailgating! Get a group of friends together and grill up some brats in the Brewers’ parking lot before a game.
9. View the Art in Bloom exhibit
Every year, local florists create art-inspired floral installations at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Wander the exhibit and get inspiration for your own bouquets or home garden.
10. Visit the Harley Davidson Museum
Another piece of Milwaukee’s hearty history is Harley Davison. Enjoy their museum just south of down town and enjoy drinks and apps at The Yard at the Iron Horse Hotel afterwards!
What else do you like to enjoy in the Spring time? What are some of your favorite local spots?
