Weekend Guide to Milwaukee in the Winter

Winter in Wisconsin can be cold and, let’s be honest, sometimes a bit dreary. And sometimes, it can be hard to find fun things to do. But, never fear! I have put together my top 10 list of things to do in the city during these long, cold months.

1. Go Holiday Shopping at Christkindlmarket

Something I look forward to all year is going to holiday markets, and my favorite one opened up in Milwaukee last year! If you are looking for unique Christmas gifts, great food and fun for the whole family, head downtown to Christkindlmarket!

2. Take a Cooking Class at Glorioso’s

Want to spend some time away from the cold? Enjoy the great indoors and signing up for a cooking class at Glorioso’s. They have a number of classes throughout the winter months, ranging from making fresh pasta, Italian bakery treats, and even sauces from scratch. Perfect for a date night, or an evening out with friends.

3. Wander Through the Holiday Lights

Throughout December you can find a number of holiday light displays in Milwaukee. Head to Cathedral Square or Candy Cane Lane to marvel at the decorations. (Bring some hot cocoa in a thermos to stay warm!)

4. Have Dinner with Friends at The Lux Domes

Looking to do something festive with friends? Set aside one night during the holiday season and rent a Lux Dome at Cafe Benelux! You and seven of your friends can enjoy a cozy evening with snacks and hot beverages, all in the comfort of your own outdoor heated dome. Tickets sell out fast, so be sure to get this on your calendar!

5. See a Holiday Show

There are always a number of great shows in Milwaukee this time of year, so it’s easy to find something you’ll love. Be sure to check out The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol and A Charlie Brown Christmas at the Jazz Estate (to name a few).

6. Tour the Pabst Mansion

Another great indoor activity! Learn about the history of the Pabst Mansion and family by stopping by for a tour. Tours are available year-round, but if you’re looking for a perfect Christmas Activity check out the Christmas at the Pabst tours, late November – early January.

7. Go to a Bucks Game

Head over to Fiserv Forum and cheer on the local basketball team! The newly renovated “Deer District” is a great place to go out with friends before, during and after a game.

8. Going Hiking or Snowshoeing

Get outside and enjoy a beautiful Wisconsin winter day! There are a number of great parks in the Milwaukee area, including the Urban Ecology Center where you can rent snowshoes!

9. Learn to Curl

The Wauwatosa Curling Club has “Try Curling” events so anyone can come and learn about the winter sport. A fun night if you’re looking for a new hobby, or just a reason to get out of the house!

10. Enjoy a Cocktail by the Fire

Milwaukee is known for its abundance of bars, so scope one out that has a cozy nook, and enjoy some quality time with family a friends! Some great places to check out include County Clare Irish Inn & Pub, Camp Bar, and Balzac.

Did I leave something out? What are your favorite things to do in the Milwaukee Winter?
