Spring Cleaning and Organization

Spring Cleaning at Home

It’s finally that time of year! Time to stash all the heavy sweaters and boots, and get your home ready for warm weather. That’s right, it’s time for Spring cleaning! Being a self-proclaimed “neat-freak,” this is honestly one of my favorite things to do. It leaves a certain freshness in the air, and it always puts a smile on my face knowing that warm weather is upon us.

A big switch in my Spring cleaning this year, is that I will be cleaning with all-natural cleaners. I recently switched to non-toxic cleaners, and fell in love with Branch Basics. This 100% plant-based cleaner works great on all surfaces in your kitchen & bathroom, you can use it for a laundry detergent, and even on your floors.

So, in addition to sharing my new secret weapon for low-tox cleaning, I wanted to share a simple room-by-room check list, and organization tips for this season.

Kitchen and dining room

  • Wipe down all surfaces – counters, stove, cabinets, fridge (inside and out) and table tops.
  • Toss any old or expired items in your fridge.
  • Sweep and wash floors.

Bathrooms

  • Clean toilets, mirrors and all counters.
  • Scrub your shower/tub.
  • Wash all towels, bathroom rug and shower curtains.
  • Clean your make up brushes with brush shampoo or dish soap. You can also clean you make up palettes by spraying them rubbing alcohol.
  • Toss old make up that you don’t use and consider replacing it with clean alternatives.

Living and family rooms

  • Dust all surfaces.
  • Sweep or vacuum floors.
  • Swap out winter pillows and throws.
  • Clean windows, blinds/curtains.

Bedrooms and office

  • Wash all bedding.
  • Clean windows, blinds/curtains.
  • Go through your closets – Get rid of clothes, shoes, accessories that you don’t wear anymore.
  • Dust off surfaces.
  • De-clutter and get rid of old papers.

Pets

  • Wash all pet blankets, beds and clothes.
  • Give their cage/kennel and deep clean.
  • Take pet to a groomer, or give them a nice bath at home (mani/pedi included).
  • Toss old toys and store the ones that make the cut.
  • Organize food and treats.

Cleaning and organizing tips

  • Make a plan – There’s no need to stress yourself out about cleaning every surface in one day! Create a schedule, and do your cleaning over the course of a few weeks. By the end of the month, your house will be good as new!
  • Start your cleaning day by opening your windows and letting some fresh air into the house.
  • Introduce more house plants and flowers – This will help keep the air inside your home fresh and clean, and bring a smile to your face.

Spring cleaning your home doesn’t have to be a chore! Enjoy bringing new life in your home and take time to appreciate the change in seasons. Happy cleaning! 🙂
