Living in Milwaukee, you will notice that there are quite a few mansions on the lakefront. For years, I have drove past them wanting to wander through their gardens and see the history inside each home. Unfortunately, most of them are private residences, but there are a few museums that you can visit!
Villa Terrace, an art museum settled just south of Milwaukee’s Bradford Beach, is a Mediterranean inspired mansion with beautiful gardens. Walking through the courtyard, you are immediately transported to the Italian countryside. The cobblestone pathways wind around a beautiful statue and fountain on your way towards the historic villa.
Walking through the home you will find art exhibitions, with views overlooking the gardens. Once outside, you will find yourself walking past massive hydrangea bushes and a cascading waterfall that overlooks Lake Michigan (although, I’d like to think it was the Mediterranean Sea). Simply put, if you are looking to get away from the city for an afternoon or evening, this is the perfect spot! Just a stones throw away from Lake Michigan outside the heart of Milwaukee.
Want to see it for yourself? Check out their website for a list of special events and exhibitions!
