When you plan a trip to Europe, it should feel exciting; not like you’re drowning in tabs, TikToks, and conflicting advice.
If you’ve ever thought, “I don’t even know where to start,” you’re not alone. Between choosing destinations, mapping out logistics, and figuring out what to pack, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed before you’ve even booked your flight.
The good news? You don’t need to figure it all out at once. You just need a clear, step-by-step approach.
Decide Where to Go (and Narrow It Down)
Europe has a lot to offer, which is exactly why decision fatigue hits fast! Instead of trying to “see everything,” start with:
- 1 – 3 countries max
- A mix of cities + slower-paced destinations
- What kind of trip you actually want (food-focused, relaxed, fast-paced, etc.)
Think quality over quantity!
Map a Realistic Itinerary
One of the biggest mistakes I see? Trying to fit too much into too little time.
A good rule of thumb:
- 3 – 4 nights per major city
- Limit excursions on travel days when possible
- Group destinations geographically
Book Flights + Accommodations Early
Once your route is set:
- Book flights first
- Then lock in accommodations in central locations
This alone will eliminate a ton of stress later on.
Plan the Details (Without Overplanning)
You don’t need every minute scheduled, but you do want a framework.
Focus on:
- Must-see experiences
- Key reservations (tours, restaurants)
- Transportation between cities
Pack Smart (Not More)
Overpacking is one of the fastest ways to make your trip harder than it needs to be.
Stick to:
- Versatile outfits
- Comfortable shoes
- A carry-on-friendly mindset when possible
Make It Easier on Yourself
If you want a step-by-step system that walks you through all of this (without second-guessing every decision), I created a European Travel Planning Toolkit that pulls everything into one place with checklists, itineraries, and planning tools included.
It’s designed to take you from overwhelmed to fully organized, without the stress.
Planning a trip to Europe doesn’t have to feel chaotic. With the right structure, and a little guidance, you can actually enjoy the process just as much as the trip itself.
