My husband, Brian, and I recently spent a night at a Postcard Cabin (formally known as Getaway House) in Wild Rose, WI and it was so fun! We’ve stayed in tiny houses before and really loved them, so am I always on the hunt for a fun retreat that’s within driving distance for a quick getaway. I think the tiny house trend and unique vacation rentals are definitely here to stay. So, without further ado, here is a little review of our most recent find.
Location
Wild Rose, WI is just 2 hours northwest of Milwaukee (in the middle of the state), so it’s a great spot for a quick one or two night getaway. You’re not around much, so be prepared to take a drive if you want a cute coffee shop or brunch spot. But, that being said, we did like embracing cooking at the cabin and spending all of our time walking the grounds and relaxing in our tiny house or around the fire. If you’re looking for larger hiking trails, I would recommend stopping at Holy Hill or Devil’s Lake for a more scenic hike on your way to the cabin (if you’re traveling from the south).
Amenities
The amenities at Postcard Cabins were great! For anyone who hasn’t been to one, I would describe it as a “campground hotel.” There were about 40 cabins that were on plots that were closer together, like at a campsite. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but we wished the cabins were farther apart to feel like we were really alone. Other than the cabins’ proximity to other guests, the cabins themselves were so cute and clean. Each had a shower, toilet, hot water, a mini fridge, a two-burner stove and basic kitchen essentials. They also had a few books, a deck of cards and a little activities card to help you stay off your phones and connect with each other. The only things we brought (other than our personal items) were groceries and some extra firewood we had at home.
The add-on amenities they provide were also super helpful and not totally overpriced. We ended up getting a fire-starter kit, which was set out at our site along with extra firewood for $9/bundle, as well as 1 pour over coffee in the morning for $3. They had a lot more add-ons to choose from, like early check-in/late check-out, snacks, smore’s supplies and more.
Overall
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay! I would definitely recommend Postcard Cabins if you have one in your area (they have some all over the country).
Have you every stayed in a tiny house? Tell me where I should go next!
