Life Lately Quarantine Edition

Well folks, it’s been… a weird couple of weeks. With Covid-19 pretty much the only thing in the news, schools closing statewide and social distancing in full swing, our lives are completely upside down right now. I’ve officially been working from home for a week, and Brian’s joining me today to officially start our self-quarantine.

To be honest, I started writing this post to distract myself from our never ending piles of laundry, disinfecting the house and the indescribable sense of anxiety I’ve been feeling. I had several cheery post topics set over the past few weeks, but every time I went to write them, they just felt so out of place. So, for now, I just wanted to share a little of what’s going on in our little corner of the world.

Working From Home

My company gave the option to WFH starting about two weeks ago, but officially closed the office last week. For now, my 30+ co-workers and I are all working from home and practicing social distancing. My office is set to re-open on April 6th, but I’m taking everything day-by-day at this point. I know I’m incredibly fortunate to have a job that can basically be done 100% online, so I’m not complaining about being able to wake up and walk to my “office” in a messy bun and slippers.

My husband’s work is a different story. As an Assistant Principle of a high school, Brian has had to make sure all of his teachers and students were set up for e-learning last week, since the schools are now closed statewide. It’s very un-charted territory for any school, so this has been a stressful time for him, as well as the whole school district.

Our makeshift WFH set up is basically three large monitors and two laptops that take up pretty much our entire dining room table. It’s not terrible, although it’s very much inspiring me to quickly design our office that will eventually be upstairs.

Social Distancing

With Brian wrapping up things at the school this week, we will officially be starting our self-quarantine and extreme social distancing. I ran to Target on Friday for some items we needed to stay at home for at least two weeks, and we are planning on not seeing anyone and only leaving the house for walks/exercise. And while it won’t necessarily be fun, we believe that it’s crucial to help flatten the curve and keep our healthcare system running as smoothly as it can during this pandemic.

If you want to learn more about how staying home can help your state, please check out covidactnow.org. I’ll also link the CDC’s website so you can keep up to date on how to protect yourself and others from the virus.

Around the House

Since we’re staying at home for the foreseeable future, we’re going to be able to tackle some house projects and to dos. I posted all of our winter house projects at the beginning of the year, and we have made a good dent in our list over the past few months. I’ll share a more in depth update with you guys soon, but our kitchen refresh is just about done and we’ve recently started going through our closets as well.

In addition to our house projects, my parents recently brought over everything from my childhood room (which was a lot of stuff). So, on top of our formerly mentioned list, I’ve been going through my old toys, photos and jewelry. And let me tell you, it has been a treat and the perfect quarantine project, haha.

Birthday Celebrations… Sort of

On top of everything that’s been going on, we had a very special birthday in our house last week (Brian’s 30th!). And although we didn’t get to celebrate the way we would’ve wanted to, the two of us celebrated with a balloon filled living room, ice cream, and a virtual happy hour with some family and friends.

I’m sure I’ll be sharing more on our newfound home life in the days and weeks to come, but until then, how is your quarantine been going? Are you starting any new hobbies or projects to pass the time?
