Staying Well While Traveling

Staying Well While Traveling

Traveling can be an amazing experience, but it can also bring on some unwanted symptoms… Jet lag, dry skin and even sickness from germy airports and planes (ick). That’s why I’ve rounded up my wellness travel tips to help you stay healthy through out your next trip.

Fight The Germs

When traveling, I like to bring a few things in my carry-on to help protect myself from germs. If you’re going to be in and out of airports, you can never go wrong with some hand sanitizer and wipes. These are great for wiping down your seat, armrest and tray on the plane and for cleaning off your hands periodically. Some other great things to bring with you are a blanket scarf and travel pillow (instead of plane provided ones), probiotics and some Neosporin. (I read an article once that said the lovely Duchess of Sussex uses this to line her nose on a plane to keep germs away. Who knew, right?!)

If you are so inclined to wear an mask during your travels, I highly recommend these NIOSH approved foldable N95s! They are super packable and they are very comfortable, even on long plane rides because they wrap around your head and not your ears.

Come Prepared

Wherever you are traveling to, be sure to pack appropriately. I’m a big believer in dressing for comfort and the weather, so I’m begging you, please don’t be that person who doesn’t pack a coat because you wanna tough it out or doesn’t pack sunscreen and then gets stuck inside recovering from sun poisoning for half of your trip. Been there done that. Trust me… it’s not worth it!

In addition to packing appropriately, always be prepared for COVID travel restrictions and entrance requirements. Research your destination ahead of time and be sure to fill out all health declaration paperwork ahead of time. If you need a COVID test to enter a country or return home, I have found that the Optum Store has super easy at-home rapid tests. The tests are accepted by airlines for passengers traveling to countries that accept an antigen test for entry, including the US and Canada, and by cruise lines with ships originating from the U.S. and Canada

Drink Water

Staying hydrated is very important while traveling.ย Keeping your body hydrated can help with the bloating and dryness that can accompany a long day of traveling. (I love using these electrolyte packets for extra hydration boost!) Make sure to drink plenty of water with your probiotic to keep your body in tip-top shape. I also like bringing travel size hand lotion on planes with me because my hands tend to get really dry during fights.

Get Some Sleep

Whether you’re going home for the holidays, or flying off to Europe, you always need your sleep! Be sure to stick to a somewhat normal sleep schedule while traveling. This will help your body recharge so you can enjoy your time off, as well as help you on the back end of you travels as you transition back to reality.

Eat Right & Exercise

I have always found that exercising on vacation is great for my overall energy and sleep quality, but it’s also great for keeping your immune system strong. Keep active, even if that just means going for a morning or an evening stroll.

Another great way to stay healthy is by eating right. I’m not saying you need to totally skip out on the fun stuff, but eating out while traveling can take a toll on your body. Be good to yourself, and listen to what your body needs. Have a light breakfast one day, or a salad for lunch, and then for dinner you can really go out and enjoy yourself.

I feel like this goes without saying, but this is not medical advice, I’m simply sharing what works best for me! Let me know if you have any other tips in the comments below! ๐Ÿ™‚
