Day Trip to Traverse City, MI

This past weekend, I took a little road trip with one of my best friends and her mom! We traveled up to Traverse City to check a few wedding “to do’s” off of my friends list, and I wanted to share our short trip through Michigan with you guys!

We started our drive from Chicago around 5 o’clock and got to our hotel around 11pm, so our first “to do” the next morning was coffee! We stopped at BLK MRKT for our jolt and got some amazing coffees and a scone to split. It was all so good, I wish there was one in Milwaukee! We walked over to Pavlova to start Kristi’s hair and make up trial, and shed some happy tears as our bride got dolled up. (I am a crier, so just seeing my friend getting her wedding day makeup done made me tear up!)

Afterwards, we toured the wedding venue and met with the photographer before heading to Peace Love and Little Donuts for our tasting. Yes, donut tasting! We tried 12 different flavors, one more amazing than the last, and narrow our favorites down to 6 or 7 flavors. I can’t wait until October so I can eat these amazing little treats again.

On top of it being a gorgeous weekend, it was also Cherry Festival in Traverse City! The downtown area was packed with tourists, and there was a huge carnival near the water. We didn’t partake in the festivities, but we did stop by Cherry Republic for some cherry flavored goodies.

Thankfully the store wasn’t as crowed as we thought it would be, but there were still lines of people tasting and sampling all over the store. Cherry jam, cherry candy, cherry sauces, cherry EVERYTHING! It was a little overwhelming, but I picked myself up some spicy cherry BBQ sauce and hot cherry salsa after a few samples.

We continued to walk around the town as we waited for a table to be ready for an early dinner. Even with the crowds you could tell how relaxing this place would be for a quiet weekend. The water was five shades of blue and the shoreline was covered with trees.

We finished soaking in the views, and headed to dinner at The Franklin. This was a great spot for a perfect summer day. On top of a great menu, the rooftop patio overlooking the town was perfect for enjoying a cocktail and conversation.

We finished out meal and began our journey back to Chicago. Once we got closer to Illinois, we stopped at our friend’s family lake house for the night right as the sun was setting. We kicked off our shoes and enjoyed some snacks while talking about wedding plans . The perfect end to a fun filled day!
